The Carskadon Name

             Located on Radical Hill in Keyser, the Carskadon Mansion has served as an important part of Mineral County’s history and heritage.

 

             The Carskadon Mansion on Radical Hill is the former residence of an influential leader within Mineral County, Thomas R. Carskadon.  Often referred to as “Uncle Tom” by those who knew him; Carskadon was a member of the 1862-1863 Convention that framed the Constitution of West Virginia.  Additionally, he served as Assistant United States Assessor, a Grant Presidential Elector in 1868, and Hayes Elector in 1876.  Locally, Carskadon contributed to the growth of the Methodist Episcopal Church on Davis Street and the formation of the Keyser Bank.  Carskadon, also a farmer, patented items and wrote articles that gained great attention in agricultural circles throughtout the United States.

 

             Thomas R. Carskadon left behind a legacy that extends well beyone the bricks and mortar of the Carskadon Mansion on Radical Hill.
